Ex-APC member becomes PDP Gubernatorial flag bearer in Kwara State.
Alhaji Abdullahi Yahman, a prominent politician in Kwara State who recently defected from the All Progressives Congress to the Peoples Democratic Party, has emerged as the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate. His ascension occurred after he won the party’s primary election for gubernatorial candidates in the state. He received 518 votes out of a total of 574 casts.
He beat Honourable Aliyu Ahman-Pategi, a three-term House of Representatives. They received 31 votes in the election. Professor GanaYisa, a former Nigerian ambassador to Japan and former Deputy Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, received 14 votes.
According to the election results announced by Hon Niyi Owolade, a former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Osun State, who served as chairman of the PDP electoral committee and returning officer in the election, Abdullahi received 518 votes, the highest number of votes cast in the election.
According to Owolade, 574 of the 591 delegates were accredited, with 11 votes being invalid.
The PDP allocated the gubernatorial ticket to the state’s North Senatorial District, including all candidates.
Abdullahi, who lost the APC gubernatorial ticket to Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq in 2019, had recently left the party to fill up a form to run in the PDP governorship primary for the following year’s election.
He had previously run for the APC gubernatorial nomination in 2003 with a group of other candidates, but Bukola Saraki defeated him and the others.
When Senator Gbemisola Saraki, the present minister of state for transport, was the party’s gubernatorial candidate in 2011, the politician was the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria’s Kwara North Senatorial candidate.
The election, which took place at the Arca Santa Arena on the Ilorin/Ajasa-Ipo route in Ilorin, went off without a hitch, with delegates behaving quietly and orderly.
In his acceptance speech, Abdullahi praised his co-contestants for accepting the election results and urged all party members to work together in the next election.
He said that Kwara State has veered off the path of growth and development under the current APC government and encouraged voters to vote for all PDP candidates in the 2023 general election to bring the state back on track.
