In response to the clamour and demand of Nigerians for improved communication with the people, the Nigerian Military said it is embracing the use of Social Media fully in its Operations. Defence Spokesman Brigedier-General Onyema Nwachukwu, stated this while hosting the first ever Nigeria Army  Social Media Live Chat, at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja on Monday. Nwachukwu, said. He also disclosed that the military has been receiving a lot of assistance from social media Communities and Influencers worldwide adding that  the military looks forward to a more robust relationship with the online community. Brig.-Gen. Nwachukwu, while responding to comments from the online audience, encouraged them to contact the Defence Human right desk to report any infraction, because it is always open to the public for complaints of any kind. Nwachukwu declared that “Bokoharam is fully defeated…. no state no village is being controlled by Bokoharam, they only engage in criminal activities to help aid their Operations….” A major highlight of the social media chat was the Defence Spokesman receiving award for the “Best Quick to Response” spoke person of the year, for being proactive to requests for information by the press. The award was the brainchild of Security Affairs, a Peace and Security Civil society organisation.
