R&B Singer Jesse Powell Is Dead
According to a post written by his sister Tamara Powell on Instagram, R&B star Jesse Powell has passed away.
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother and uncle Jesse Powell. He passed away peacefully in his Los Angeles home,” the statement said.
“The family asks for privacy at this time as we mourn the tremendous loss and celebrate his everlasting legacy. Jesse loved music and he especially loved his fans who supported him throughout his career. We want you all to know that you meant the world to him.”
The cause of his death and the precise date of his passing are unknown at this time.
He was 51 years old.
Jesse was one of the musicians that contributed to the 1990s mainstreaming of modern R&B.
After joining Silas/MCA in the middle of the 1990s and putting out his self-titled first album, he established himself in the R&B scene. The album’s lead single was “All I Need.”
When his second album, “‘Bout It,” was published in 1998, it quickly rose to the status of his most commercially successful effort. He got a number one single with the song “You” and another with the song “I Wasn’t with It.”
Prior to leaving the spotlight, Jesse released two additional albums.
