Many Feared Dead In Kogi Tanker Explosion
More than twenty people were killed by burns when a petrol-filled tanker burst in Ankpa, the administrative center of Ankpa Local Government in Kogi State.
According to reports, the tanker lost control owing to brake failure, plummeted onto the Maboro River bridge, and then exploded.
On Wednesday, September 28, about 3:30 pm, according to an eyewitness, the incident took place.
The eye witness reported: “It’s the second major disaster in Ankpa within this month. This one is the most terrible and horrible. Over 20 persons were burnt to death, some beyond recognition.
“Many who were crushed to death had their body parts scattered all over the place. The parts were picked in pieces and put in body bags.”
Stephen Dawulung, the Sector Commander of the Kogi State Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), verified the tragedy but stated that the precise number of casualties could not yet be determined.
“My boys are there, putting the pieces together. We don’t know the number of the dead yet. A tanker, one bus and three cars, three motorcycles were involved,” he said.
