2023 General Elections : INEC Delists 1,126,359 Ineligible Registrants

Out of the 2,523,458 new registrants who signed up between June 28, 2021, and January 14, 2022, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has delisted 1,126,359 of them.

Festus Okoye, National Commissioner and Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee, spoke to reporters on Monday, September 12 in Abuja. He said that since the suspension of Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) on July 31, 2022, work has been ongoing to clean up the voter register using the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS).

He said; “Earlier, the commission informed Nigerians that out of the 2,523,458 fresh registrants that registered between 28th June 2021 and 14th January 2022, 1,126,359 records were found to be invalid and consequently delisted.”
